Morning everyone! You may or may not have heard of the Internet Archive. It’s a site that archives versions of webpages going back to 1996 – in case you ever wanted to revisist what a nightmare the World Wide Web was in 1996.
Anyway, the fine folks at the site started a new project. Since 2009, they’ve been recording every news broadcast from the major national news outlets, and now all those clips are available for your viewing pleasure. Head over to http://archive.org/details/tv.
There you can enter in keywords for what you’re searching for. For example: “Obama Gay Marriage” will bring up the interview in which he decided to come out in favor of marriage equality, other networks reporting on the interview, and commentary from various pundits on the situation. Obviously, the applications of this are endless. You could even pull a “Daily Show” and show various clips from a politician’s career to see how consistent or inconsistent they’ve remained on their opinions and stances. It all plays natively in your browser, nice and simple.
